i wonder how it is that people are so able to freely air their views and their daily routines and their innermost thoughts on public blogs for all the world to see. and how it is that they actually find things to type about and rant ravingly for others to read. and how it is that there are actually people free enough or bothered enough to read these entries. its amazing how technology allows people to anonymously dip into the lives of others and get a taste of their personal dramas.
had an insightful lunch date at fratello with fellow life scientists on friday after our uneventful module swapping. it was fun la talking nonsense with sarah, her ABANG famy and diy on random topics from immature singapore idols to life as a life scientist. hehe. yet it was a bit disheartening to reflect that despite our due training and knowledge in something as futuristic as life science the reality is that there are simply very few job openings that require our skills and expertise. (cheh bebual macam dah graduate haha!) out of this batch's 600 graduates there were only 7 openings at biopolis. how tragic is that for you to study passionately about something and then not have the opportunity to put it into use. the government should seriously consider investing more into the life sciences field to create more jobs instead of just making a big hooha and making it appear all appealing and "in". without this due investment we'll just be like another India. Its honestly pathetic for a life science degree holder to earn $1800 doing research in hospitals or labs when thousands have been spent on the education alone. and nothing against teachers, but its such a pity that most graduates end up enrolling in NIE not for the passion in teaching but for the lure of better monetary prospects or even worse, the lack of jobs suited for their degrees. its a pity that even doing honours might not get u anywhere far in the life science field. an even bigger pity is that even pHd holders might not get far in a specialized field without an overseas education. what then is the purpose of a specialized major in our tertiary education for, if we are unable to put it into use in a suitable job? singapore talks about being one of the most technologicallay advanced countries yet not much has been done for the advancement of life sciences, something that is so clearly important for the future.
and it is truly sad to see so many countries at war with each other. so many tears, so much violence, so much death. it is absolutely heart-wrenching to hear of innocent children dying as a result of callous cruelty between irresponsible men who use war to disguise their inability to lead. it is outrageous that innocent people have to pay the price for such senseless violence. and we are once again reminded of how unfair the world can be when refugees in Lebanon have to sleep on the streets and eat days old of leftovers while people in Israel basically enjoy themselves in refuge resorts swimming and playing tennis. how unfair it is that terrorists so cruelly snatch the lives of others to suit their own personal agendas. how unfair it is that trusted leaders abuse their follower's trust and get caught up in their webs of lies and corruption. and how unfair it is that while all these tragedies are happening there are still people all over the world taking for granted what they have and complaining of mundane subjects like the courtesy of hawkers.
how i wish it could all end in peaceful harmony, in utopia. and i hope it all ends soon. how i wish Islam wouldn't be viewed with tainted eyes. how i wish all those practising their religions could learn to view others with respect and reverence and use their religion to advocate harmony instead of violence. how i wish mankind would stop being savage and learn to be kind and compassionate. how i wish.
